Ciao!
Our class began our day trip to Cefalù with scenic ocean views on our hour bus ride. Once we arrived we took a short walk to the city center where the duomo that was commissioned by Roger II is situated. The duomo was an offering for Mary after Roger II survived a shipwreck off the coast of Cefalù. Despite his intentions to be buried at the duomo, Roger the II tomb resides in the Palermo Cathedral since the duomo was not completed during his lifetime. The duomo became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.Unlike past years, our class was not able to hike La Rocco to the Cefalù Castle due to rain. While this was disappointing, we were able to hear Matthew’s presentation on Roman deforestation.
After touring the duomo, our class was given time to explore Cefalù on our own. Some students stayed at the duomo to attend Catholic Mass, while others ate at a cafe, shopped for souvenirs, or walked to view the sea.

On our way back to Palermo, our wonderful bus driver, Nicolas, stopped to allow us to take pictures of the view above Cefalù.
Back at the hotel we had a class meeting to discuss what we have learned from our time in Sicily. Sophie also presented her research proposal on disordered eating in Italy.
